Potato Please Guide / Illustrated walkthrough
Your first depot shift, in pictures
Start with a potato at the board and follow it to the water inlet. This walkthrough also covers two easily missed transitions: collecting raw stock outside and answering mail while an order is active.
PC launch walkthrough, with the Muscle Memory note from hotfix 1.0.2. The images are developer gallery stills; input and objective details come from the linked written sources.
Find the working face of the potato
At the peeling station, concentrate on one potato. Keep an unpeeled patch facing you. If you keep cutting over the same exposed flesh, turn the potato until you can see the edge of the remaining skin. Look at the surface after each stroke. A deeper cut removes edible potato along with the skin.

Finish the small patches by hand
Work around the curve in short strokes. A tiny patch on the far side is easy to miss: rotate the potato and inspect the perimeter rather than pressing harder on the front. If you have Muscle Memory and it appears to stop just short of finishing, the developer clarified in 1.0.2 that the final spots may still need hand peeling.

Deliver the peeled batch to the water inlet
Check which Journal objective is incomplete. Peeling a batch at the bench and delivering that batch are separate actions. If the peeling count advances but the delivery count does not, leave the workstation, pick up the finished potatoes and carry them to the inlet pictured here. With a batch in hand outside the workstation, the launch walkthrough reports right-click throws it. Aim into the opening. Check the delivery objective again before peeling another batch.

Switch to the outdoor pile when the yard opens
When the Journal asks for Bigger pockets, use the supply window to purchase Carry Capacity under Handling. Follow the door objective to the yard. Take raw potatoes from the mound back to the raw bin at the workstation. The outdoor pile supplies the bench; the water inlet receives finished potatoes. Mixing up those two destinations can make a perfectly good trip advance the wrong counter.

Read the letter before choosing a reply
When the envelope notice appears, return to the supply window. Read the sender and both responses before committing. Keep a note of the reply if you are following a Pavel route; the later choice in the train cab is a separate decision. A letter can arrive while a workshop objective is still active. Return to the Journal after dealing with it to resume the interrupted task.
